The New Era of Electronic Invoicing: Verifactu and Its Implementation

On October 28, 2024, Ministerial Order HAC/1177/2024, dated October 17, was published in the BOE, which develops the regulation to comply with the new billing obligations in Spain. This regulation marks an important milestone in the digitization and modernization of billing processes for entrepreneurs and professionals.

What is Verifactu? Verifactu is a system that establishes the requirements that software programs supporting billing processes must adopt. Its main objective is to ensure the integrity, preservation, accessibility, readability, traceability, and immutability of billing records. This is achieved through the use of IT security elements such as chained hashes and electronic signatures, which ensure that records cannot be modified without leaving a trace. Business Central allows integration with billing systems that meet Verifactu requirements, ensuring the integrity, preservation, accessibility, readability, traceability, and immutability of billing records. Additionally, Business Central facilitates the generation of electronic invoices that can be sent to the Tax Agency for immediate validation and control. This is achieved by implementing functionalities that ensure each issued invoice is securely recorded and compliant with current regulations.

Implementation Deadlines The regulation comes into force on October 29, 2024, but both suppliers and taxpayers have until July 2025 to ensure their systems comply with the new technical and legal requirements.

Digitization: Facilitates the digitization of companies, improving efficiency and reducing paper use. Tax Compliance: Helps taxpayers comply with their tax obligations more easily and efficiently. Improvement in Assistance Services: The Tax Agency will be able to offer better assistance services to taxpayers, facilitating the preparation of tax record books and tax models.
